“Multiple senior EPA officials” have told Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) that since December they “have ceased their efforts” to follow the Supreme Court order to determine the hazard posed by tailpipe greenhouse emissions and to propose regulations. In December, EPA administrator Stephen L. Johnson agreed with their findings and “forwarded an endangerment finding to the White House and a proposed motor vehicle regulation to the Department of Transportation.” Since then, the officials “did not know what transpired.”
UPDATE: The Washington Post notes the EPA today “decided to lower the allowable amount of smog-forming ozone in the air to 75 parts per billion, a level significantly higher than what the agency’s scientific advisers urged for this key component of unhealthy air pollution” — at the urging of industry officials.

Fantastic.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:25 pmEffort?! We don’t do no stinkin effort!
March 12th, 2008 at 6:26 pmDon’t worry. The planet will take care of it … and us.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:26 pmNo, no, no. The rapture will take care of everything. Why bother saving the planet when we can bring about the second coming of Jeebus by promoting war in Israel?
Foreign policy by the Book of Revelations…..Bushie style!
March 12th, 2008 at 6:29 pmNext time you see a commerical with BP or Exxon explaining how they are cleaning up the planet just send an e-mail thanking them.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:32 pm#4 Since there are two books, Old and New Testament, how do the fanatics know which one to follow as truth? Just wondered.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:33 pmKill some more kids, GOP. The thousands you’ve murdered overseas can certainly be matched here at home, you mass-murdering animals.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:34 pmMaybe they just changed what the ‘E’ stands for. Why would you check for Co2 if you were safeguarding emissions. The Emission Protection Agency.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:34 pmThe Bush Administration always chooses their corporate cronies over what is good for America.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:35 pmEVERYTIME!
What’s everyone so upset about? It’s not like there’s a law or anything… oh, wait a minute…
March 12th, 2008 at 6:35 pmNamtillaku: LOL!
March 12th, 2008 at 6:37 pmYes, let us just see the immediate impeachment of the head of EPA for lies to Congress (he just said they were working on C02 but could not remember how many were working on it) as well as failing to establish smog standards in good faith.

You know what amazes me? All of these ‘things’, RNC emails, the AG scandal, this EPA behavior, etc etc. If you specifically set out to do as much damage to the U.S. as you could, without suffering the consequences, you couldn’t do a better job than BushCo has. It’s really a wonder that they got a single vote in 2006, I’m guessing that less than 1% of the population benefited in any way from this administration.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:46 pmI keep wondering if Bush and Cheney are actually working for Bin Laden…killing every department set up to help American people, allowing sales of helicopter and airbuses to foreign countries. Lots of aid to every country while ours is falling apart.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:50 pmYou just gotta wonder.
These clueless dipsticks will all be gone soon. They’ve got less than a year left. Just more of a mess for the rest of us to clean up.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:00 pmIt’s like there is a deliberate, concerted effort to harm the American people and the environment. Our enemies couldn’t have asked for a more friendly agent government.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:00 pmIgnoring a court order. Wow.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:00 pmMarie - I agree..our country’s infrastructure is failing, the Euro is now worth more than the dollar, our military just lost the one leader trying to keep them out of more harm. Jobs leaving by the bucket load and Micro Soft begging to hire software people from India while our people go on unemployment. Sure makes sense doesn’t it?
March 12th, 2008 at 7:05 pmThe administration does not respond to subpeonas or Supreme Court rulings, huh? Wow. How do the trolls like the fact thet we basically have an king living in our WH.
The sad, little man walks with a limp, talks with a limps, sleeps with a limp, and thinks with a limp - all the things which made him the success he is :(
March 12th, 2008 at 7:06 pmAh, Marie just thought of one good thing, 4 years ago, those of us against bush had to whisper now we can say it outloud. So that is a good thing.

Bin Laden? Hell, they’re working for Gorpon from the planet Nimrod. Has anybody seen if the ShrubCo pod cabal is actually breathing? They probably live on CO2. They don’t act like they need oxygen to survive.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:26 pmAnd that idiot Spitzer gets driven from office for being an arse for overpaying for sex while these corrupt robbers of our national health will get presidential awards.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:38 pmRemember kids. Science is bad. Knowledge is dangerous. Asking questions is disrespectful. The fate of the World is in God’s hands.
Makes me want to puke.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:41 pm#20, Yes, I agree with you.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:54 pmWhen the war was “popular” and people were afraid to speak to the contrary, we had to temper our comments about the boy-king, but now people are shouting their disapproval, mocking him in public, and acting as if he were already gone (ah! were that to be so.)
Just a little historical irony here–the EPA was created by the Nixon Administration. Leave it to W Bush–who’s so awful that he makes me nostalgic for Watergate–to create yet another Tricky Dick comeback.
March 12th, 2008 at 8:14 pmDouble wow- defying a Roberts-Alito-Scalia-Thomas-Kennedy court order. Well, it’s official, the Bush administration is above the law.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:44 pmThe nation can’t get serious about CO2 emissions until we start building new nuclear power plants to replace coal, oil and natural gas.
The US gets 20% of its electricity from nuclear power.
France gets 90% of its electrical power from nuclear power.
Start letter writing and phone calling campaigns to the environmental organizations to stop supporting dirty energy and to get behind clean and safe nuclear power.
Until then, all our CO2 reduction efforts are a waste of time.
The two presidential candidates who support nuclear power are Obama and McCain. Don’t vote for Hillary.
March 13th, 2008 at 12:18 am.
Out of sight out of mind…
What they meant to say to Congressman Waxman was: “Since we can’t see the Co2, it must not exist.”
